Next Generation Artists
The Omega Ensemble strives to identify and support young artists of all ages. The Next Generation Artists are extraordinary young talents under age 16.
Sabrina Lu, age thirteen, is currently in the eighth grade at Dwight Englewood School in Englewood, New Jersey.
Among the awards and prizes she has won, are Honorable Mention in the New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA) Competition, Gold Prize in the American Association for the Development of the Gifted and Talented (AADGT) competition and First Place in the Rondo International Piano Competition. As winner, she was invited to perform in the awards concerts at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Last year, Sabrina was featured as a "Next Generation Artist" at the Omega Ensemble.
She studies the piano at the Palisades School of Music in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Her teacher Is Michael Thomopoulos.
Astra Phoon, age ten, is currently studying piano with Michael Thomopoulos at The Palisades School of Music in Fort Lee, New Jersey. She began studying piano at age four with Dr. Tian Song.
Astra has already won numerous top prizes in many local and international competitions, including Gold Prize in the Seattle International Festival & Competition, Gold Prize in the American Association for the Development of the Gifted and Talented competition "AADGT", Gold Prize in the Impact Young Artists Competition, the Pauline Styler Award at the Piano Teacher Congress competition, First Prize in the New York State Music Teachers Association, First Prize in the New Jersey Music Teachers Association competition, and was aired for "Kids on Keys" by the Classical Network.
Last year, Astra was featured as a Next Generation Artist in the Omega Ensemble. She has performed numerous times at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Aaron Copland School of Music in Queens College of New York, Christ & St. Stephens Church in Manhattan. Astra has also performed at the U.S. Department of State and has been invited to perform at the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington and Ward Recital Hall of Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. as well as Kosciuszko Foundation.
